ABOUT US
A Unit of 4th Year Architecture Students from University of Tasmania were commissioned and funded by the Director of the Tasmanian Craft Fair to design and construct an entrance portal to the Fair, an event which attracts 30,000 visitors and held in Deloraine. The brief was simply that the structure should be engaging, “whimsical” and reflect the ‘making’ aspect exhibited throughout the Fair.
The Unit had to operate with all the tools available within the school engaging the digital (CAD) laboratory as well as the metal and wood workshops meeting at the cross roads of computer aided, materials testing and hand crafting.
The Unit was directed by Mark Bagguley with technical assistance from Peter Booth, Robin Green and Duncan Maxwell. Structural Engineering was provided by Rod Neville. The students were responsible for all aspects of the production which included Project Management, Health & Safety and Logistics.
